Wood Pellet Burning Tips
Never buy wood pellets that are uncovered and open to the weather. The plastic wrap covering the pallet should also be inspected for rips and holes
Check wood pellets bags for “bloating.” This indicates that the wood pellets are wet and disintegrated.
Always store your wood pellets in a dry, cool place. Never store the bags directly on a concrete floor.
It is best to pour your wood pellets into a bucket, or similar, before pouring them into the wood pellet stove hopper. This will allow you to visually inspect the fuel for excessive amounts of sawdust. Avoid dumping any sawdust into the hopper.
Adjust the combustion air so that the wood pellets burn with a vibrant, bright flame. A lazy flame with dark tips indicates that the fire is air deprived.
To ensure proper air circulation, keep your wood pellet stove clean. This is particularly important around the burn gate, Heat transfer pipes (heat exchanger) should be inspected regularly. Please consult with the wood pellet stove manufacturer for more details.
Do not use a household vacuum to clean out the wood pellet stove. Wood pellet ash is very fine and will pass through most vacuum filters.
It is recommended that the wood pellet stove be inspected and cleaned annually (or every 2-3 tons of wood pellets) by a certified stove technician.
