FreshBed

Start with a clean stall, stripped of all bedding.

A 12×12 stall with rubber mats, wood or packed earth floor will require five bags of FreshBed to get started. A stall with a bare concrete floor may require an additional amount of FreshBed.

Option 1

• Place the bags on the floor of the stall. Cut an X from corner to corner in each bag.
• Pour 3-5 liters of water over the FreshBed for each bag. Allow to absorb water (approx. 10 min) and expand.
• Dump and spread the FreshBed evenly throughout the stall.

Option 2

• Open and spread five bags evenly throughout the stall and sprinkle the FreshBed with approximately 15 to 25 liters of water. Allow to absorb water (approx. 10 min) and expand. Once fully activated FreshBed will expand to approximately three times its original size creating a deep, soft bed.

One 12×12 stall with rubber mats, managed as outlined above, will require roughly 16 bags of FreshBed every three months.

 Maintenance

• With a fine-fined fork, sift through bedding to remove solid waste (manure).
• Locate wet spots and spread them out mixing dry bedding in with the wet material. Be sure to scrape down to the floor under wet spots blending with dry.
• Note: Do Not remove wet spots until all of the bedding has fluffed up throughout the entire stall OR an area has become super saturated, turned a dark colour, or an unpleasant ordour can be detected.
• When an area of bedding is saturated, remove that bedding and add additional FreshBed as required (typically ½ to full bag once per week). There is no need to soften supplemental bedding with water.

Tips

• It is important to maintain a light moisture content to ensure FreshBed’s superior ammonia holding capability. Sprinkle with water as needed.
• Do not over saturate. Adding too much water will affect the performance of the product.
• As with any deep litter system, mix the bedding daily by pulling the bedding away from the walls and mixing with the bedding in the centre.
• Use a fine tined fork will make removal of waste product easier.
